The Telescopes of La Palma
The island of La Palma contains one of the world's best observatory complexes. A multi-national site, the Roque de Los Muchachos observatory is situated under one of the darkest, most stable skies in the world. Pride of place goes to the 4.2m William Herschel Telescope. Below is a selection of pictures showing the telescopes found at La Palma.
Special thanks to all the people at La Palma for their help and cooperation
during our visits, especially John Mills and family, Javier Mendez Alvarez, Paco
Armas, Renee Pit, Alan Chopping and Dafydd Wyn Evans (Institute
of Astronomy, Cambridge, UK).
